The New Normal: Preparing for Halloween
I have some plates that we use this time of year.
This is a lovely book I dip into at this time of year. The author is a local. It has recipes using things foraged in the hedgerows.

The New Normal: Happy Halloween
Getting ready for Halloween, which is full of superstition and black cats often feature - our little cat is not at all spooky. She doesnt know yet that those mice under my bedspread are my toes!
The best place in our area for seeing pumpkins is usually Slindon. The village is famous for the displays done for charity at Halloween. Sadly this year there is no display. But *here's* a link to their site . The little mouse house light was in their pottery shop years ago and is something I always wish I had purchased - one day I will go back and see if theres another one waiting for me.
These plates have been with us for over fifteen years and come out every Halloween eve. I just love their funny faces, they are from Crackerbarrel, Florida, where we had a very happy halloween family holiday when the boys were boys.

Halloween
First there was a bit of browsing of The Lanes, quite a few shops had done really good displays for Halloween - Cyber Candy was spectacular with lots of candles suspended in mid air, a book of spells and pumpkins....
A lovely painted pumpkin and ghostly dress with leaves in this vintage dress shop.
Another shop window full of severed limbs....
and with plenty of party hats on sale.
As it was very sunny, there is a lot of reflection on some of my pictures, but you can get the idea!
A cauldron of spiders
we walked up to the marina end via the residential side streets, quite a few parties were being planned for tonight....this was the best display...
This year more than ever people were dressed up, during the afternoon we saw a lot of vampires out of their comfort zone on the Brighton streets in all that sunshine! Most of the shop workers had face painted and dressed up as ghouls, ghosts and zombies. I think a lot of very creative people live, work and attend University in Brighton.

By the way, rules of the house are
1. Only good is welcome here....
2. Any children calling here will not be returned ... until the celebrations have finished
3. Any strange lurkers will be encouraged towards the light - if they have trouble with that we will refer them back to no. 1,
Hope you are all having as much fun as us this weekend. xxx
