Remembrance Sunday

 Linking with :

Act of Remembrance | Royal British Legion

Thinking of all our soldiers past and present.  I will be wearing my poppy with pride.

Decorating my post today with poppies I have painted
over the years.

I don't think we can ever look at a poppy without thinking of our service people and the sacrifices they have made for our country - I will be thinking of their families too, those they have left behind.  We must not forget.

The New Normal: pottering about

I  have been home a lot, either working or hibernating.  I had a whole week off from the gym, mostly to see if the tendonitis in my hand would settle, but also as I just didn't feel like doing much.... this is a very mild UK Winter but, nonetheless, I still feel like making the house cosy and warm and cooking wintery meals....I had a spurt of enthusiasm to make a pea, mint and lemon risotto.  The smell of the mint and the bright green of the ingredients made it a sensory experience!

I am making soup twice a week - usually spicy lentil or carrot, then this week it was leek and potato.  Done in my slow cooker while I am working there's not much effort involved and it's something nice for the men to come home to.

We had a very lovely 4 mile circular walk over at nearby Godstone which is not far from here and finished back at the suitably olde worlde pub (of course) The White Hart, where I had a yummy double baked cheese souffle and hubby had bangers and mash.  We  have friends who walk a lot and know all the best walks, all we have to do is turn up and follow them!

I picked these dried seedheads for flower arrangements.  You have to be careful not to pick
some of the poisonous variety (UK) such as wild yarrow and hogweed - these I think are wild caroway, I wore gloves and checked a little book I use for reference to be on the safe side.  I was being cautious as I was out picking up pinecones a few days before and something I must have touched in the undergrowth caused my finger to blister so you can never be too careful.

I also cut the hydrangea flowerheads to dry for the Christmas wreath I will make in December and I made a circular twine base which is drying out nicely.

It’s lovely in the morning to sit out in the conservatory and wait for sunrise

We have a little trip to Edinburgh planned later in the month and on the schedule is a meet up with a very special blogger - will tell more nearer the time.....

Happy Halloween!

If you haven't had time to carve a pumpkin this year, you are welcome to share mine - just take a screen shot and post it on your blog (would you put a link to my blog? that means someone new might visit here and I might get to visit their blog too - it's always fun to discover someone new in the farest corners of Blogland)

Tonight we will be lighting our pumpkins, when they are finished we will take them to a tree in the woods that has always felt special and leave them for the birds and woodland creatures to eat.

I noticed I have some new followers but I have been unable to find a link on your profiles to visit you, if you leave a comment I think I could get the link and visit your blog if you have a few moments some time......

Happy Halloween!
