Autumn

Early mornings are feeling Autumnal here in the UK, the air is fresher and it is dark at 6.30am, which I like, it feels like the World is asleep.  I am looking forward to frosty mornings.  The  birds are visiting early for worms, I am not feeding them  right now as the big crow chases the smaller birds, best leave nature to its own devices.

The heavy, pretty much continuous rain on my days off has prevented walks in the woods.  I have been longing to gather conkers, I know it's childish, but I feel compelled so will find time this week.  There is a park near work that is perfect.   I love Autumn hedgerows with berries and leaves entwined with spiders webs, the natural light at this time of year and the anticipation of Halloween on the horizon.    I am very fond of these plates that we bring out at this time of year, they are homely and  make me feel happy, maybe because they hold good memories.

I painted this conker a few years ago, not sure I could do another now :)
Sometimes my brushes do all the work and I am surprised.

I went to the Asian supermarket to stock up on ingredients for curry.  The fresh produce here smells delicious, so much variety.  I bought crushed ginger frozen in sticks, fresh corriander and dried spices.

I had the weekend off work and spent it cooking and freezing, I made a lentil dhal and a chicken curry from my favourite Indian Housewife cookbook.  I take pictures sometimes of the things I see so I can identify them later and a little old man asked me what I was doing - he was able to tell me the Sri Lankan leaves that look like curry plant leaves are infact used to extract juice as a treatment for diabetes.  No name though, just 'Sri Lankan leaves'.   I love shopping there as people are so friendly and keen to share their knowledge.

Todays dabblings, I might leave my paints out in case inspiration strikes:)

  3. You should definitely leave your paints out Betty! :) Your paintings are lovely! And those plates!!! I want them!!! Fall has arrived here in the mountains and I'm loving it. Though it doesn't last long here, we may have snow before Halloween again this year. We just have to go with the flow though!
