Last day of August

You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you.
You have to go to them sometimes.
Winnie the Pooh

These little horses graze on the land at the edge of woods and
like it if we drop a few carrots as we pass by.

We walked through the open fields late this afternoon,
nothing to obscure the view but a herd of cows...

These flowers grow all along the riverbank here, they are now about 6 feet tall and smell pungent.

and on the way home from our walk, we were aware

that Summer is leaving us
and already the cloak of Autumn colours is being worn.

  1. I think the pink flower is one of the Balsams.

  2. It's been positively summery here today but the leaves are still falling from my trees! I love that Winnie saying - it's very pertinent to me! Lovely walk. I'd give anything to be able to go walking with my two! xxx

  3. I always love seeing horses in fields, especially when they are playing and running.

  4. I've noticed the change in season already here too. It gets cooler at night and dark earlier. Nice walk and nice herd of cows.

  5. No, its not going that easily! It was deliciously warm and sunny yesterday and as a Summer fan and an eternal optimist I'm trying to believe BBC weather when they say its going to be a glorious week despite this morning's rain! xxx

  8. What a beautiful picture of the horses. Isn't walking around the land so good..exhilarating & satisfying. Just thinking of you walking with your son..David & I used to do quite a bit together at one time & it was good, then he went (as they eventually do) & returned & went once again & I thought that I would miss him terribly but it's ok & now he phones at least twice a week & we have fabulous chats & that is just grand too. Have a lovely week Betty. Much love Catherine x0x0x

  9. What a delightful post Betty! I love the quote and your photos are absolutely enchanting. We had a lovely unusually cool summer here, but for days now its been hot and muggy, as if summer finally woke up and is in a rush to catch up. I will welcome the lovely colors and cooler weather that Autumn brings!
